Installation requirements
General
For partner and installer installations, assistance from Synguard can be requested to carry out the installation and configuration. The cost for this is determined in advance in a quotation, which must be approved before implementation. Anything not included in this approved quotation is carried out by Synguard and invoiced to Synguard's customer.
In order to deliver an efficient and high-quality installation, we have listed a number of conditions and elements that must be met before the start of the installation.
An installation consists of a number of different components, each with its own preparation and technical specifications.
- Cabling
- Hardware installation
- Locking systems supplied by third parties
- Software installation and configuration
- Links to external components and systems
Listed below are the conditions that each of these components must meet to ensure efficient installation
Cabling
To connect a badge reader, at least one U(F)TP cat5e cable must be provided. This cable should run from the cabinet containing the door controllers to the location of the reader. The reader is placed at a height of 110cm from the finished floor, so the U(F)TP cable must be provided to the same height. The following distinction is made between the badge readers:
- Bath readers with Wiegand protocol (1 cable per reader to the controllers)
- Bath readers with OSDP protocol (1 to 4 readers per cable in line, for the same obstacle to the controllers)
- IP bath readers (1 network connection PoE per reader to the customer's network)
Each type of reader has its own cabling requirements. More information on this can be found in the technical data sheet of the reader or in the standard cabling diagram.
An alarm cable of type 2x0.75mm² + 6x0.22mm² must be provided to control and feed the locks. The 2x0.75mm² is used to power the locks, the 6x0.22mm² cores are then used to connect feedback contacts from/to the door (e.g. door position).
A minimum XGB 3G2.5mm² cable must be provided for the connection of the access control power supply(s). This should run from the low-voltage board to the control boxes of the access control. A separate 230VAC circuit (fuse) of 20A must always be provided, in line with the applicable regulations.
To connect the IP (main) controllers, an active network connection must be present and connected to the customer's network.
Standard cabling diagrams can be requested from Synguard. Customer-specific cabling diagrams are provided at cost after final order of the installation.
A clear marking should be made on the cabling so that connecting the cabling can be carried out smoothly and efficiently. The marking on the cables must match the element names/numbers on the customer-specific diagram. If Synguard determines on arrival that these markings are not present, the time for sorting out the cabling in direction will be charged to the client at the applicable directional rates.

Hardware installation
For the installation of the control boxes and power supplies, sufficient space must be provided at the installation site for positioning and connecting the components.
For the installation of the badge readers, the connection cable must be brought out at a height of 1.10m (1100mm) with sufficient length, provided with the necessary markings.
At the time of installation, all doors and locking systems must be present and fitted with the correct cabling and specifications (such as lock type and correct voltage), so that the installation can be completed correctly during the allotted time.
In preparation for the installation, the following items should be supplied to Synguard no later than 2 weeks before the scheduled installation:
- Plans indicating the positions of access control components.
- Door lists indicating the doors applicable for access control.
If, at the time of installation, time still needs to be spent on freeing up space to install the hardware or adjust the cabling, this time will be charged to Synguard's client on a time-and-expense basis according to the applicable rates.
If we do not have the required information on time (less than 2 weeks in advance), the installation will not be able to start and will be moved to a later date.
Software installation and configuration
For installation and configuration of the software, the items below must be available at least 2 weeks before installation:
- Server must be ready with an available administrator account
- Network details for IP controllers (IP addresses, Subnetmask, Gateway and DNS)
- Overview of users and access profiles
- Overview of any special configurations
To collect and provide this data, template documents will be provided by Synguard when ordering the project.
If no data is available at the start of the work, the schedule for software installation and configuration will be adjusted to a later date. For this, additional travel costs will be charged to Synguard's client if additional travel is necessary.
Locking systems supplied by third parties
In most cases, the locking systems are provided and installed by a third party. It is important that Synguard receives the technical data sheets of the locking systems used during quotation phase. This is so that any changes required in the configuration of the software and/or hardware, such as the provision of additional controllers or power supplies, due to changes in the locking systems (voltage, locking type, etc.) can be taken into account in good time.
If no technical data sheets have been supplied and changes to the configuration of the access control are required during installation, these additional works will be charged to Synguard's client at the applicable line rates.
Links to external components and systems
If third-party systems are to be linked to the access control (lifts, fire stations, videophone, CCTV, intrusion protection, etc.), this linking must be done in the presence of the supplier/installer of these installation(s). If the supplier/installer is not present during the installation, the connection will be postponed to a later date. Additional travel expenses will be charged to Synguard's client.
